Travel Soccer – tryouts required

The soccer season is days away and the last date to sign up for Fall 2021 soccer (tryouts) is August 30. Our final tryouts begin on Tuesday August 31 (see the schedule below for your age group).

These tryouts are for new players and returning players from last season who were unable to tryout in June. There are between 2 to 5 spots held open on the Division 1 (most competitive) team rosters from the results of the June tryouts.

For Returning Players Who Did Not Yet Tryout:

New Players Who Are Trying Out For The First Time:

These players are not yet assigned to any roster. They will be competing with all of the other players to make the Division 1 team. They are also competing with all of the not-yet-rostered players to make the lower division (developmental) team. However, if all roster spaces are filled by higher scoring players, then the player will be invited to play Rec. This is all done according to the player’s evaluation score.

For Players That Are Already Rostered On A Lower Division Team:

This applies to all players who accepted their invitation and completed their registration after the June tryouts. All of these players are still eligible to make the Division 1 team. They will be evaluated at the same time as the other players during these tryouts and take their better score from either the first tryout in June or the present one. These players are already rostered on a team and are not in any danger of losing their current placement. The only possible move is to be invited to play on the Division 1 team.

What Is The Tryout Format?

These makeup tryouts are interwoven into the first training/practice for the developmental teams. Our Director of Coaching will be evaluating the players while the Staff Coaches and team coaches guide the players through the training.

What Do I Need To Bring?

Each player will need cleats, shin guards, an appropriately sized ball, and water. At this time masks are not required but this may change between now and Aug 30. We operate according to the guidelines and directives of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association.

Ball Sizes:

U8 through U12 (grades 2 – 6): size 4

U13 & U14 (grades 7 – 8): size 5

What Is The Procedure When I Arrive?

Arrive early.

Players who are not currently rostered on a team will check-in at the table to receive a numbered pinnie. If the player is not checked in, their attendance may not be recorded, and it is very likely that they will not receive a score and subsequently miss out on being placed on a team. Please do not skip this step.

After receiving a pinnie the player will join the other players of his or her age group.

At the designated start time the players will be called over by their coach to begin the training.

When Will I Know The Results?

There is an Amherst Jamboree on Saturday September 4th that all teams and players are invited to attend. We will be sending the team placement invitations on the following day, Sunday September 5th. All players will have one day to accept the invitation and register by Monday September 6th.

Any unfilled (not registered) roster spots will then be offered to the next player in line.

The final team rosters for the season will be in place on Tuesday September 7th.

The first games of the season are on Saturday September 11th. There is no margin for error regarding the one-day registration deadline.

What Do I Need To Register?

Players are required to register on our system by accepting the invitation to join the team. The invitation is sent via email. In addition to filling out the registration information, including insurance information, a headshot photo and birth certificate must also be uploaded into the system.

The registration fee for the season is $217 + a processing fee. There are discounts available for players who receive a free or reduced lunch from school. And there are also scholarships available. If you will be requesting a scholarship, contact traveldirector@amherstsoccer.org immediately to make the arrangements ahead of time.

What About Uniforms?

For players that already have a uniform from last season – including players who ordered last season and have not picked up their uniforms – you are all set. If there happens to be a number conflict from player moves, there are blanks available (numbered jerseys with no name).

For brand new players – you will be provided with a blank jersey for the season.

Shin guards, cleats, a ball, and water are required. Mask is optional.
