Dear Amherst Families,
We have been busy at Amherst Youth Soccer Association putting together a special COVID-aware soccer program and are happy to announce that we are ready to accept registrations for the fall.
The registration link is:
Unfortunately, there will be no traveling teams this fall. All soccer will be local.
Note that all of our soccer activity adheres to the rules and procedures provided by the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association which can be found here: https://www.mayouthsoccer.org/return-to-soccer-activities/
This season’s soccer is focused on fun with light player development. We’ve combined the ages and genders into three coed age groups –
Young Learners (Pre-K through 1st grade) – Parent participation requiredSoccer Fun! (2nd grade – 4th grade)Big Kicks (4th grade – 8th grade)
Each group is tailored to the players’ needs. For the two older groups, there will be training and warmup led by a staff coach and then a 50 minute small-sided game with a referee. The young group is 45 minutes of activities and challenges.
Sessions are only on Saturdays and at this time it looks like all groups will be located at Plumbrook Recreation Area.
As we worked through the possible ways to configure the season, we settled on two 4-week legs with Columbus Day weekend as a break between them. The intention is to not open registration for the second leg until we get much closer to the start in case the state decides to restrict youth sports again. In which case we may have to adjust the second leg or cancel it altogether.
** We cannot offer credit or refunds on registrations this season. We are already operating on a razor-thin budget due to the cancellation of the spring and refunding all registration fees at that time.
Thank you for being patient with us.
We want to take this opportunity to invite any parents who are open to helping to administer or implement our soccer programs to contact the board at firstname.lastname@example.org or Travel Director Keith Payne at email@example.com.
We really need help for the coming spring 2021 season – there are several volunteer and paid positions that will be available. Additionally, we’re always looking for parents that want to get even more involved and join the board of directors. We are a non-profit community based organization and parent participation is vital to our ability to provide our special brand of youth soccer.
Thank you ️
After being on pause for a few months, AYSA will have an impromptu board meeting by Zoom this week to discuss what a fall season could look like. All are welcome to join.
Wednesday, August 5th 6:30-9pm
First, we wish you all well. The safety and well-being of our community is our primary concern. This is a challenging time for many, with so much uncertainty and social distancing, but spring is coming and when this period passes we will be back to having fun together! Meanwhile, we hope you get to enjoy some quiet time and get outdoors for walks.
We will have a virtual board meeting this evening, Thursday 3/19 from 6:30 PM – 9 PM, by Zoom, where important issues will be discussed. Please consider conferencing in using the information below.
We have received guidance from the governing leagues (full text below). In short, all soccer activities are suspended through April 15th. As it stands today this should not affect our season. However, we are anticipating that the date will be extended further and are preparing as follows:
Our original schedule for Rec soccer begins on April 18. We are prepared to adjust the schedule as needed with the intent to provide the same number of sessions as originally scheduled. Rescheduled sessions may be set to Fridays, which are already allocated for makeups due to weather, Sundays, or a combination of both. We will do our best not to extend the season further into June.
As of this time the Roots Soccer League has not indicated a change in the schedule, however we anticipate some form of an abbreviated season length with the possibility of weeknight games, Saturday double-headers, or the addition of Sunday games. We may have only one or zero pre-season practices before the first games. In all cases we will continue to provide a thorough developmental program with our DOC Carla DeSantis and the staff coaches.
We will have an extra board meeting this month to prepare for Spring Season and approve budget items.
We need more parents to join the board, so please consider coming to the meetings if you are able.
